The story begins describing the women as being sick, but there are no signs of mental illness, and she is aware of her surroundings and even believes she is not really sick. therefore there is curious change in her character, and she appears to be disenchant and one the verge of becoming mentally insane. And in the end she does go overboard, and her character is lost. There are factors which ready these changes; I will explore these three major changes in her life as well as the use of symbolism.

The woman in this story is taken on a voyage to a summer house to rest and get well. Her husband, John, who is similarly her doctor, treats her as a child, and as she is fragile, and she says this is perhaps the reason wherefore I dont get well faster. She is apparently trauma from postna tal depression, which some women experience ! after giving nascence to a baby.
